How to Select and Clean MeshNets for Automatic Bud Trimmers
Posted by Tom's Tumbler on Dec 2nd 2024
For the last decade, Python Industries (fka. Tom’s Tumbler) has provided the industry with the most gentle bud trimming equipment option on the market. The number one question that we receive is, “How can you trim cannabis without a blade?!”
The secret lies in our patented Tumble technology, and the mesh nets that we utilize to trim your flower. Every bud trimmer that we sell (with the exception of the TTT-1600 HC) comes with three food-grade quality mesh nets with three different purposes:
½" Mesh Net:
This mesh net is typically used to begin your cannabis trimmer process. Simply attach the velcro on the net to the pans and pour your flower into the net. Fasten the zipper to enclose the drum, turn on the motor and run your cycle between 3-5 minutes.
After 5 minutes, the trim will have filtered down through the funnel flow bag into a catch bin, leaving your large A-sized buds inside the net. Once you have removed your large buds, you are ready to proceed to the next net for additional processing.
¼” Mesh Net:
This mesh net is typically used to continue your bud trimmer process and isolate your popcorn-sized buds. Simply attach the velcro on the net to the pans, pour in the excess trim that was filtered through the funnel flow bag, turn on the motor, and run your cycle another 3-5 minutes.
Once 5 minutes have passed, the remaining trim will have filtered down into a catch bin, leaving your popcorn-sized nugs inside the net. Once you have removed these smaller buds, you are ready to proceed to the final net in our system.
151 Micron:
This micron screen is utilized in order to procure kief from the remaining trim that has collected in your catch bin. You can simply attach the velcro on the net to the pans, pour in the excess trim that was filtered through the funnel flow bag, then turn on the motor and run your cycle for another 3-5 minutes.
To increase your yield, we suggest using these nets in a cold environment and implementing dry ice inside the drum. The cold temperatures help significantly increase the yield of kief. Additionally, these micron screens are available in custom sizes (upon request), ranging from as fine as Micron 50 up to Micron 200.
These mesh nets are critical to the effectiveness of your Tumble Trimmer. As a result, it’s critical that you take care of your nets and implement a cleaning SOP to maintain its quality as a bud sorter. Below are some tips to help you increase the longevity of your mesh nets for bud trimming equipment:
How To Clean Your Mesh Net:
Once you know the type of mesh nets needed for your bud trimmer machine, it’s time to clean. You want to maintain a regular cleaning process to receive high-quality yields from each use. Here are some helpful tips to add into the routine:
- Remove the net from the pans. Brush and blow out the excess trim and resin from the nets.
- Apply Tom’s Resin Remover. Use generously to the zipper line of the net. Let it sit for 20 minutes. The more impacted the resin is, the longer you should let the resin remover sit.
- Fill a bucket/tote with equal parts cold water and isopropyl alcohol. Allow the net to soak in this solution for 30 minutes minimum. Please note that the nets should soak for longer if they are heavily soiled. You may also include organic soap in this solution for additional cleaning power. You may also machine wash these nets with organic soap.
- Allow the nets to hang dry. This is to help ensure that they don’t shrink. *DO NOT MACHINE DRY
With proper maintenance, your nets will last a long time! For operators harvesting multiple strains, it may be advantageous to purchase multiples of each net to reduce the wait time between trimming sessions. Please add: We offer discounted pricing for bundles of two and three nets.
As our post-harvest, early Holiday gift to all our valued customers, every mesh net will be on sale marked down 25% for the remainder of 2024.
